Chicago, IL MOSTRA Brazilian Film Festival is back in Chicago to celebrate its 10th anniversary. From November 1 – 15, XX socially conscious features and XX shorts produced in Brazil will be shown at several venues across the Chicago area. The festival will kick off on November 1st with the comic drama Loveling, winner of six 2019 Brazilian Film Grand Prix awards, including best film, best director, best actress, and best original screenplay. For the closing night on November 15th, the festival will present The Movie of My Life, directed by critically acclaimed Brazilian actor Selton Mello.

Another highlight of MOSTRA X is the documentary Amazonia Groove, a full musical immersion in the religious and cultural traditions of various communities along the Amazon River in Brazil. Amazonia Groove’s Director Bruno Murtinho will be in Chicago to talk about his movie with the audience.

In addition to the screenings, the festival also promotes debates with the movies’ directors, producers and actors, giving audiences the unique opportunity to discuss with them themes presented on the big screen.

Many of the movies selected for this year’s MOSTRA will have their international premiers in Chicago.

Since 2010, the festival has drawn hundreds of fans of Brazilian movies to screening rooms across the Chicago area and throughout the Midwest. In addition to the Windy City, this year’s MOSTRA will be showing movies in Columbus, Indianapolis and West-Lafayette (IN), and Minneapolis (MN). All screenings are free, except for the opening and closing ceremonies, which are fundraising events.

“We are happy to celebrate these 10 successful years with our supporters: engaging audiences, sponsors, and of course all volunteers, who made this dream come true a decade ago,” said Ariani Friedl, MOSTRA’s director and organizer. “When we created MOSTRA, our goal was to show to Chicagoans different aspects of Brazilian culture through films. I’m glad to see we went beyond that — the festival offers a space for debate on important social issues such as inequality, environmental sustainability, and sexuality”.

MOSTRA is organized by the non-profit organization Partners of the Americas, São Paulo-Illinois Chapter
